Indonesia

Summary

The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) supports the country's industrial sector to continue innovating to improve productivity and competitiveness. One of the steps taken is through the Rintisan Teknologi Industri (RINTEK) award, which is expected to create industrial players who can compete globally in the era of Industry 4.0. The RINTEK award is given to national industrial players who are dedicated and committed to producing innovation through independent research and development activities. The award has been given to 51 industrial companies for 72 innovations produced so far.
The RINTEK award is a non-fiscal incentive in the form of an official government award to industrial players to increase their motivation to innovate. The head of the Indonesian National Standardization Agency and Industrial Policy (BSKJI), Doddy Rahadi, said that the RINTEK award is a form of government appreciation for industrial players who have produced engineering, invention, and technological innovation to develop their business processes. The RINTEK award is expected to motivate national industrial players to develop competitiveness through high-value industrial technology research, development, and engineering activities.
Since the registration of participants closed on May 31, 2021, the RINTEK 2021 award has successfully attracted 42 registered companies with 52 industrial technology innovation titles. The final assessment was carried out by the RINTEK Workshop Selection Assessment Team on October 12-13, 2021. Several companies in the industrial sector that participated include PT. Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, PT. Packaging Integra Centre, PT. Tatalogam Lestari, PT. SOHO Industri Pharmasi, PT. Swayasa Prakasa, PT. Konimex, PT. Semen Baturaja, and other industrial companies. The selected companies will be announced at the RINTEK 2021 Award Ceremony on December 1, 2021, in Jakarta.
The RINTEK award is expected to increase the motivation of industrial players to win the competition in the domestic and global markets. The Global Competitiveness Index 2020 data released by the World Economic Forum shows that Indonesia currently has a score of 45.6 out of 100 in strengthening research and innovation aspects. This report indicates the need for a strategy that can motivate the mastery of innovation through independent research.
